Burnham Beeches Forest Path

N Kav 24 Sep 2020

I loosely based this picture on a photo I took last autumn. Making the path look like it’s covered in fallen leaves was the most challenging part, any tips from anyone on how to achieve this effect more simply?

Beautiful fall scape.super job on the trees!

I really like your painting, the colours you used and the trees are very good!

This is amazing. I can see this work is very different from others. The path looks covered with the leaves. It is amazing piece of art! This is Golden fall ! Awesome!

This is just great Kav. Love the colours and the leafy effect you created. All I can suggest is maybe try the underpainting technique for your leaves as used on "golden rays of sunshine", I couldn't believe the effect I got on my trees and bushes and unbelievably simple. I bet you could adapt that to use as ground cover on a path. Certainly worth a try.

Here I am again. Totally awesome contrast of blue sky with golden leaves. This is what i always loved about fall, but I could not figure it out how to make in wet on wet. I got mud and got discouraged and did not try again. Your painting has inspired me. Thank you for this.

Thank you everyone, for your lovely comments & advice. I sketched out the composition in raw sienna and blue/grey on a sky blue background. I used the very bare minimum of paint, recently I’ve encountered problems trying to layer leaves upon leaves so I used the very least trace of paint from the very start.
